Vendée Beach House is a unique property for the area, located in a pretty, secluded spot among pine woods and sand dunes. It is only 50 metres via a small, very quiet public lane from a broad sandy beach, which stretches for 8km and looks across the channel to the Isle de Ré.

Over half of the 250km Atlantic coastline of the Vendée is broad sandy beaches; you will find yourself basking in the sun, settling down for a nice meal overlooking the waves, and enjoying the seaside ambience with plenty of room to spread out. The coastal towns are delightful, with the old fishing village of Les Sables-d’Olonne full of old world seaside charm, its broad beach lined with restaurants and cáfes. It is famous as the starting point for the gruelling Vendée Globe sailing race. St-Jean-de-Monts is known as the biggest sandpit in western France, although La-Tranche-sur-Mer actually tops it with 13km of sandy beach. St-Gilles Croix-de-Vie is the oldest port in the Vendée and if you like grilled sardines this is the place to go. Offshore, the islands of L’Ile-d’Yeu, with its wild coastline facing the Atlantic, and Noirmoutier, reached by its exceptional causeway the Passage du Gois (check the tide tables!), are terrific spots for day outings. Inland, the Marais Poitevin, known as the “Green Venice”, is an area of 90,000 hectares of canals and marshes, forests and abbeys, where sea and fresh water meet, and full of the most luxurious variety of birds and wildlife. You can hire a small boat and drift lazily through the timeless waterworld.

Golf: The Vendée is home to six 18-hole golf courses, four of them on the coast and two inland. For serious golfers the best by a distance is the Domangère course at La Roche-sur-Yon. The next recommendation is the links course, Golf de la Prée, which is north of La Rochelle. At Saint Jean-de-Monts, a number of holes on the edge of the beach is a links course. At Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, the Fontenelles course and its surrounding countryside is one of gentle undulations, maritime pines and green oaks. The course at Port Bourgenay is on a villa estate covering 85 hectares and is fringed by pine woodland and small lakes. At Olonne-sur-Mer a reasonable holiday golf course. All are an easy 1 hour's drive from the villa.

Clare Lewis (2016)

We very much enjoyed our stay in this lovely, bright and modern house. The living space is very generous with a pretty outlook over the woods from various terraces. The pool is a little small but the fact it is heated made it very pleasant and great for our young daughter. The Jacuzzi was very relaxing, and warm enough to use in the evening. The location is ideal being just a couple of minutes' walk to the sandy beach, and very quiet whilst still in walking distance of shops and restaurants. We would have happily stayed another week!

Mary Black (2015)

The location was superb for our group (four adults, two young children) with the walk to the beach taking just a few minutes - likewise the walk to the local shop for the daily bread. The house was light and spacious with superb terraces off the first floor living accommodation. Excellent facilities and very comfortable furnishings made for a very enjoyable holiday. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Sophie Hughes (2015)

An amazing location - we didn't appreciate just how close to the magnificent beach it is! Can't fault Dominique and her team!

Mr Duncan Brock (2014)

It lived up to our expectations in every respect, and was finished to a very high standard. We thought that we might miss the absence of a pool (new pool from 2015), but the grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed the splash pool/Jacuzzi when we came up from the beach in the late afternoon. Seven days of lovely weather was obviously a help. The beach was excellent, and even the Atlantic felt pleasantly warm. We will certainly want to return but possibly not next year. On our last day we met the owners - who had come to do most of the cleaning! They were delightful.

Alison Hall (2014)

Lovely villa, great proximity to beach.

Dr Sam Robson (2013)

One of the most beautifully appointed houses I have ever stayed in….with the beach just moments away it was the perfect location for a real" get away from it all" holiday. The house was equipped with everything I could wish for…clean crisp linen, refreshingly vigorous showers and blackout shutters which turned the brightest day into night if required. The cleverly planned balconies mean you can have breakfast outside in the morning sun and dine watching the sun go down from either end of the house with as much sun exposure as you like.

There are opportunities to walk on the beach, go for meandering bike rides and lovely the French restaurants situated in nearby towns meant that we always had choices about where to eat

I can't wait to return…there is plenty of room for all of my family and friends and we can escape from the world in our own space and luxury.

Geoff and Nicola Tidder (2013)

We stayed at the Beach House in July 2013 and really enjoyed our stay. The villa is an amazing place for a holiday with friends or an extended family. It is extremely spacious and finished to a very high standard. Bathrooms have large power showers and the whole villa has an airy light feel.

There are numerous verandas to lounge on as well as the outside terraces so there is always quiet corner to finish off that book. The fact that it is inches away from the beach means that a walk on the sands before breakfast is made easy."

There are good supermarkets close-by and a short walk into the village will get you your morning bread. We found lots of good places to have a meal out.

We hope to be able to make a return visit soon.

Annie and Richard Oxley (2013)

We really enjoyed our stay... So close to the sea we could take lovely long walks, swim and relax- just a few seconds from the house. The house was so well equipped and welcoming. The hot tub and BBQ were fantastic and we had many memorable meals on the sunny terrace. A beautiful place to make special memories.

D.M. (2013)

The house was very relaxing and extremely well equipped. Walking distance to the beach makes a big difference. We had a great family time.
