The village of Visan is a 10 minute walk from the property. Visan is a small picturesque village with attractive 18th century buildings, churches, fortified gates and a castle ruin, and is known for its surrounding vineyards which produced good and inexpensive wines. In Visa there are a few bakeries, a small supermarket and two reasonably-priced restaurants (Hotel Restaurant du Midi and Les Troubadours).
The Drôme Provençale occupies the southern third of the Drôme department in the Rhône-Alpes region, and here is the true beginning of the “Midi”. The climate and landscape change, become drier, rockier. Olive groves, lavender, thyme, the Mistral, golden-red sunshine on glowing yellow-ochre stone hilltop villages, the first views of the iconic Mont Ventoux: all of Provence begins here. The picturesque landscapes of the Drôme Provençale are dotted with interesting and lively towns. Montélimar was a medieval fortress of one of Provence’s most famous dynasties, and is the world capital of nougat. The old Gallo-Roman fortress town of Grignan is dominated by its château looming over the countryside.
