The Charente-Maritime enjoys the long hot summers and mild winters so necessary for the production of the fine grapes, used to make fine wines and cognac. Located along the Atlantic with 200km of coastline, the area is a magnificent and exceptional part of France. This is a quiet agricultural area, mostly vineyards and sunflower fields, wheat and maize. For those used to Britain’s congested roads the comparative peace of rural French roads makes driving a pleasure again. Royan, 40 minutes up the coast from La Collinette, is a popular holiday destination for the French who enjoy the excellent beaches and appreciate the local oysters, mussels and freshly caught fish.

Very clean, comfortable, good facilities, everything worked (although WiFi was a bit intermittent) and the kitchen was very well stocked.
It was the most beautiful and peaceful villa and was so well equipped with everything you could ever need!
The caretaker was really friendly and on time to meet us on arrival. Gave us tips and advice on the area which was really useful. The welcome pack complete with milk, water and beers in the fridge was a lovely touch!
The house was beautifully decorated and equipped for a very comfortable stay. The outside/pool area was equally wonderful with enough shade/sunny areas to suit everyone and a lovely dining area where we ate every meal.
- The house is a lovely place to go wine tasting with a helpful host and delicious wines. A truly lovely area with lots of great places to visit. Cognac is a great day trip but Les antilles de Jonzac is more suited to families with young children. A very sunny and relaxing stay! Make sure you leave some hard boiled eggs for the hedgehogs!
- I had a brilliant week here at La Collinette - fantastic house set in beautiful surroundings - loved the sunflowers and vineyards! Keep an eye out for 'Beast' the hedgehog and make sure he doesn't accidentally go for another dip in the pool!
- La Collinette is a beautiful house in a beautiful setting! Definitely explore the local area and further afield. From local vineyards to the incredible Zoo at La Palmyre - there is something for everyone!
- Jonzac, Cognac, Bordeaux, Meschers, Royan, Saintes, Château de Beaulon, and Talmont. There is certainly plenty to do. If cycling is your thing then call Chris at Dispo Velo (00 33 (0) 5 40 00 08 98). This service is run by a charming English couple who collect and deliver (but not in that order!) the bikes. It is quite hilly so ask for road tyres! There is a great cycle track along the estuary from Port Maubert down to La Parfaite which is all off road. An excellent (albeit not cheap) meal to be had at the Château at Mirambeau and useful local tips from the friendly people who service the house and pool.

This is a very pleasant Charantaise villa set in secluded and secure gardens. Plenty to do in the area, and the lovely Atlantic beaches are just a short drive away, and you can visit the famous Bordeaux vineyards nearby.
