The Dordogne region, in the heart of the southwest, has been fought over for centuries by the English and the French – some would say they’re still at it – and no wonder. It is an area rich in all the delights France has to offer. Beautiful dramatic scenery greets you at every turn: castles perched high over the Dordogne River valley, the spectacular Gouffre de Padirac caves, tranquil rivers winding their way through limestone cliffs. Our earliest artists descended 17 thousand years ago into the caves near Lascaux, on the Vézère River, to paint in breathtaking colour the animals they hunted; you can visit a replica cave, as well as many other prehistoric sites in the area. The fortified “bastide” towns of Monpazier, Eymet, Villefranche, and others are remarkably well-preserved witnesses to turbulent times. The mighty donjon of Bourdeilles castle looms imposingly, while Brantôme (the “Venice of France”) wears a more serene aspect, the beautiful Benedictine abbey gazing contemplatively down onto the river Dronne.

Eric was excellent throughout our stay.
All excellent. The owner was a good cook with the evening meals, and helping the children brilliantly. We had some good evenings around the dinner table - he cooked with great panache for 18 for 6 nights.
This is a really lovely property - love the furnishings, which make it very homely. Kitchen is well kitted out, and loved having meals for all on the covered terrace. Great having the tennis court and the pool, but could have done with a few more sun loungers and/or deck chairs.
The tennis court was used very extensively! Pool good. Dinner table arrangements excellent. Terrace in front of house perfect for pre-dinner drinks. We loved it.
We had an excellent holiday, Eric was most accommodating and always to hand. He cooked for us on 5 nights - the meals were delicious.
The villa overall was splendid and the pool in excellent condition. Very good tennis court. Gracious rooms - well furnished. A very comfortable and well furnished property.
The Manoir is absolutely gorgeous - very comfortable with wads of space. The pool and tennis court are first class and grounds also lovely.
Fifteen of us had a wonderful week. A lovely house with wonderful grounds. The tennis court and pool were used all the time as was the ping pong table. The owner was friendly and made 2 delicious meals for us. The cleaner too was delightful. We can't wait to go back.
The olde-worlde atmosphere of the house, combined with excellent modern facilities made this an ideal holiday. There were lots of activities provided for on site to entertain 8 energetic grandchildren, yet those of us who wanted a quiet moment would always find a secluded corner in the extensive grounds.
Beautiful property. Ideal for a family get together.
We found everything about the villa and garden wonderful for all ages, and had a marvellous time.
The fact that the proprietor was on site made a difference - their vested interest in customer satisfaction came across.
The cleaner was excellent - very helpful and coped with us all and the children.
Eric (the owner) was truly exceptional. He was kind, generous, helpful and very attentive. He was a magnificent cook. We will all miss him. The property was much better than we thought. It is wonderfully outfitted for children. There are endless amounts of activities and games in the house for kids.
We had a great holiday, much enjoyed by all of us from England, Holland, USA. The owner was very friendly and easy. Thank you!
The owner was friendly, discreet and efficient.

There is so much to do at the property (heatable pool, tennis court, billiards, etc) and you'll be even more tempted to stay in once you've made the most of the charming owner's cooking skills. But then you'll find it hard to resist visiting the lovely sites nearby.
