A most charming place that has retained all its old provençal charm. The interior is surprisingly spacious and beautifully furnished. |

Location |
This charming mid 19th century property which retains all its original charm and features is set in a prime location in Provence, just outside Ménerbes (1km), the charming hillside village described by Peter Mayle in “A Year in Provence” (15min. walk). Ménerbes has a bakery, various small shops, restaurants and cafés. There are many lovely villages nearby: Bonnieux (16km), Roussillon (17km), Oppède-le-Vieux (6km), Lacoste (7.5km), Goult (8.5km) among many others. Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, famous for its antiques market and intricate waterways is 20km away. There is a huge provençal market at Lourmarin (29km). The larger towns of Cavaillon (17km) and Apt (22km) have markets on Monday, and Tuesday and Saturday respectively. Avignon is 40km away, and Aix-en-Provence 75km.
There is a tennis court in Oppède (5km), horse riding near Lagnes (14km), bike hire and Sunday market at Coustellet (10km) and 9 and 18 hole golf course 20km away at Saumane-de-Vaucluse.
Canoeing and kayaking are possible in the Sorgue River and a leisure lake near Apt offers water sports and fishing (no swimming). There are beautiful beaches all along the Mediterranean coast with the closest in Marseille and Carry-le-Rouet (both 94km), Sausset-les-Pins (99km) and La Couronne (103km). |

Exterior |
The property is surrounded by six acres of hillside woodland, and enjoys a secluded position with wonderful views of vineyards and cherry orchards towards the Massif du Luberon. There is a grassy area at the front of the house and many fruit trees in its attractive terraced grounds. The swimming pool is set in a paved terrace with shady trees close by. |

Interior |
The interior is full of old provençal charm with most of the original features preserved. There are many levels on all floors separated by a few steps. Entrance is into a spacious dining room (the staircase up to the first floor has no railing - see photo) which leads to a large kitchen with a table and doors to a suntrap patio, ideal for breakfast, and a large living room with the original manger, exposed beams and an open fireplace, which give on to a lovely outdoor summer shady dining area with views of the front garden. There is also a separate wc on this floor.
On the first floor are a master double bedroom, a bathroom with a wc, a double bedroom, a shower room with a wc, a separate wc, and a large children’s dormitory with four single beds. An open-tread tight spiral staircase leads up to an attic twin bedroom.
There is also a very spacious annexe with a very large and bright living area with, to one side, a few steps leading to a double bedroom and to another, steep stairs leading up to another double bedroom and a shower room with a wc. |
