Location

Originally occupied by royalty, this attractive traditional stone house dates back to 1800. It is located in the small village of Bernac-Debat (bakery, butchers, post office) with its pretty church in a rural and picturesque setting. All shops and good restaurants can be found in the attractive town of Tarbes (9.5km) which also offers tennis courts, a Thursday market and bike hire. There are many markets in nearby villages and a large supermarket five minutes away at Laloubère. Country and mountain walks abound in the area.

The area is known for its spas, dramatic landscape and good sports facilities. Lourdes is 27km away and the border with Spain 80km. The closest skiing resort is 38km away at La Mongie. Fishing is possible at 2km on the Adour River, horse riding in Bagnères-de-Bigorre (13km), and rafting and canoeing at St-Pé-de-Bigorre (37km) in the spectacular gorges of the Gave de Pau. There is a leisure lake 28km away at Agos-Vidalos (swimming, canoeing, pedaloes, fishing). The Tour de France passes through the village in the summer and there is very good skiing close by. The beautiful sandy beaches of the delightful towns of Biarritz and St-Jean-de-Luz on the Atlantic coast are about 160km away. Tarbes (9.5km) has a 9 hole golf course and Lourdes (27km) an 18 hole course.

Exterior

The house enjoys a quiet position set away from a small village road with enclosed gardens with fruit trees both at the front and at the back of the property. A lovely terrace at the back is ideal for outdoor meals and extends to the fenced-off swimming pool area. There are far-reaching views of the Pyrénées from the front of the house.

Interior

The interior is very welcoming, spacious and comfortable. There are many original features and it is decorated with much character in a mixture of antique and contemporary furniture. The ground floor boasts two spacious living rooms, a dining room and a large very well-equipped kitchen with a dining table. There is a separate wc on this floor.

On the first floor are five double bedrooms, each with en suite facilities, two with en suite dressing rooms, and a room with a cot. One of these double bedrooms has a mezzanine with an additional double bed. The other two double bedrooms are located on the first floor of a wing of the building (wc on ground floor) with separate exterior access; these two bedrooms interconnect (you have to walk through one to reach the other) and the second has a door onto a corridor with access to a bathroom via one of the double bedrooms of the main part of the house.

Sufficient dining furniture is provided for 18 persons both inside and outside.
