Dominique says... |
 |
 |
|
There is much to enjoy at this property: its genuine 18th century feel, the experience of life in a small port, a stroll to pleasant restaurants on one side and a beach walk on the other, and always the sea ahead of you.

Location |
This ivy-clad 18th century typical granite fisherman’s house is located on the quay in Barfleur, one of the most charming small fishing ports on the Normandy coast, just east of Cherbourg (27km). Barfleur has been classified as “one of the most beautiful villages of France”, has a twice-weekly market (Saturday and Tuesday), all shops and services, good restaurants and cafés, as well as tennis courts and horse riding 1km away. Bikes can be hired at Quettehou (9km) and there are a sailing school and scuba-diving in Barfleur.
There is a narrow sandy beach within walking distance (100m) behind the church, and a longer wider beach at Sambière (1km). There are many others between Barfleur and St-Vaast-la-Hougue, particularly the beach at Jonville (9km) with its beautiful outlook toward the island of Tahitou (13km). Tahitou is a lovely place full of wildlife and has concerts and festivals; it can be reached by foot at low tide or by boat at high tide. The lighthouse at Gatteville (3km) which can be seen from Barfleur is the second highest in Europe and has inspired many painters and film-makers.
There is a great variety of interesting places to visit nearby: the village of St-Vaast-la-Hougue (12km), the cape at La Hougue, the landing beaches and war cemeteries at Utah and Omaha (35 and 80km), the aquarium in the Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg. |

Exterior |
The house is located directly on the quay with only a road separating it from the port and sea. At the front is a small terrace separated from the road by a barrier and a gate where one can sit and watch the world go by and the fisherman unloading their catch. There are no problems with parking close to the house. |

Interior |
The interior is full of charm and character with wood floors and many features. The front door opens into a lovely dining room (the table can be extended to seat 8) which leads to a small charming wood-panelled living room and a kitchen at the back of the house which has access to a small street. There is also a separate wc on this floor.
A narrow staircase leads up to the first floor which consists of a double bedroom and a twin bedroom at the front of the house overlooking the port, and a bathroom with a wc and a single bedroom at the back. On the second floor are a double bedroom and a bedroom with a pair of bunk beds and a single bed, both at the front of the house, and a shower room with a wc.
Occupancy is limited to 10 persons. |
