You can go back in time here – the landscape is wild and unchanged for hundreds of years. The house is a treasure of original features and the grounds just fabulous. Clients have said that the spring-fed pool water is glorious. |

Location |
This picturesque secluded stone sheepfold ("bergerie") is located 3.5km from the small village of Savoillan (bakery) and 7km from the beautiful village of Montbrun-les-Bains where all shops, tennis courts and horse riding facilities can be found. Montbrun-les-Bains is classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France.
The area is full of picturesque sites such as Mont Ventoux, the Gorges du Nesque, the Montagne du Buc and the Dentelles de Montmirail. Many places are worth visiting nearby such as Le Château d'Aulan, l'Abbaye de Sénanque, and many romanesque churches. There are dozens of charming hilltop villages close by tucked away in the hilly countryside. Lavender fields, apricot and olive orchards, and pine and oak forests abound.
The Toulourenc River runs along the edge of the property and there are many gorges to be explored along its course. It is well worth visiting the unusual village of Brantes (5km) with its old streets facing Mont Ventoux as well as the market at Sault (16km), known for its lavender honey nougat. There are many interesting towns within easy reach: Avignon (74km), Carpentras (48km) and Vaison-la-Romaine (31km).
There are beautiful mid-mountain walks close by. You can climb the north face of Mont-Ventoux at night and admire the sunrise over the Alps in the early morning or walk downstream along the Toulourenc River through its magnificent gorges. |

Exterior |
The property boasts an extraordinary setting in 72 hectares of land at the heart of the countryside with truly spectacular views of the mountainous countryside. The position is isolated with neighbouring houses a short drive away. Access to the property is via a private unpaved country road (2.5km) that snakes its way up the hill amidst lavender fields and truffle oak trees. The 2000sqm private garden is bordered by a double hedge of almond and olives trees. There is a pleasant covered terrace which stays cool in the summer facing the main entrance. From the house there is direct access to a selection of walking paths.
The enclosed oval-shaped swimming pool has been built with grey paving stones with access via wide steps; the water supply system is simple but ingenious and captures water from a nearby spring belonging to the property. The pool benefits now from a solar heating system which helps raise and maintain the temperature of the water by a few degrees, weather permitting.
Tucked away in the trees is a wooden hut for children.

Interior |
The interior is very spacious and rustic and has been decorated in a traditional provençal style and restored with genuine provençal materials. It boasts original wooden beams and stone walls. On the ground floor, there are a large living area, a small well-equipped kitchen which overlooks the garden, and a dining room in a most unusual setting, under an original arched stone ceiling (the original sheepfold). Also on this floor are a double bedroom (which can be turned into a twin), a bathroom, a separate wc, and a twin bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a wc. Access to the twin bedroom and bathrooms is via the double bedroom which opens onto the living room. There is however external access to the twin bedroom as well.
On the first floor there is a large mezzanine with a high beamed ceiling and a sitting room. To one side is a twin bedroom with an en suite shower room with a wc, and to the other is a split-level room dug into the rock. The lower level of this room is furnished with two pairs of bunk beds for children and the upper level has a large playroom with a double sofabed and an en suite bathoom with a wc. A few steps up from the playroom is a further twin bedroom.
There is an annexe to the side of the house (with external access only) with a TV area for children on its lower level and a mezzanine with two single beds and an en suite shower room with a wc.
All the windows in the house are equipped with anti-insect blinds which can be lowered in the evenings. |
