An ideal backdrop for a French 70s movie about a great family gathering. The setting is superb, and the pool unusual and of the clearest natural water. The area is quite a discovery with easy access to the foothills of the Alps to the east and Provence to the south.

Location

This Tuscan style villa is located in a picturesque area just north of Provence, 19km from the motorway exit at Montélimar-Sud, and just 1km from the beautiful village of Grignan with all shops and services, a Tuesday market, and a good selection of restaurants. The Château at Grignan, once home to the Comtesse de Sévigné, is well worth a visit and hosts plays and concerts during the summer. Tennis courts and horse riding can be found at Grignan.

The small historic town of Valréas (11km) is well worth exploring - it offers all shops and services, most sports facilities including a leisure lake with pedaloes, swimming, and fishing, and beautiful monuments. There is an 18 hole golf course 21km away at Montboucher-sur-Jabron and a 9 hole golf course at Clansayes (15km), and a leisure lake for swimming at Bollène (29km). Wonderful summer festivals thrive in Orange, Aix and Avignon, all easily accessible via motorway.

Exterior

The property is an island of tranquillity within 16 hectares of grounds featuring pine and oak trees.The house commands wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and its own extensive gardens, flanked by delicate cypresses and speckled with flowering laurels, lilacs and roses within three terraces down to the pool area. The swimming pool is a traditional "bassin"; its water is not filtered but treated and continuously renewed, and the temperature of the pool is normally quite warm during the summer months. The bottom of the bassin is 80cm wide with sides sloping outwards up to the edge.

Interior

The house is set out on three levels with a vast south-facing courtyard which can be enclosed for children to play in. The furnishings and decoration are of very good quality and very comfortable. The main living room, a sitting room and a dining room open onto the terrace; also on the ground floor are a kitchen, a separate wc, three double bedrooms (two with an en suite bathroom with a wc), one single bedroom, one twin bedroom and a shower room with a wc. The bedrooms which do not have en suite bathroom or shower facilities have a separate en suite area with a washbasin.

On the first floor are a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom, two double bedrooms each with an en suite bathroom with a wc, two single bedrooms and an en suite bathroom with a wc, two twin bedrooms which are more simply furnished than the others and a separate wc.

Occupancy is limited to 18 persons.
