Location

This 19th century basque house enjoys an enviable position close to many sandy beaches and 18km from the elegant town of Biarritz which boasts beautiful turn-of-the-century architecture, offers fantastic shopping and two good beaches. St-Martin-de-Seignanx (2km) has basic shops, a small market on Saturdays and a supermarket; it is located on the edge of the River Adour which separates the beautiful forests of the Landes from the Pays Basque towards the Pyrénées.

Bayonne (12km), famous for its ham and 5-day and night summer fête (running of the bulls, corridas, concerts) has a beautiful old quarter with many architectural and artistic highlights. The charming seaside resort of St-Jean-de-Luz (32km) with its stunning cathedral and pedestrian area is well worth a visit. The Spanish border is 48km away.

The attractive coastal villages of Ondres and Biandos (both 9.5km away) have beautiful beaches. There are surfing schools in Ondres and Tarnos (10km), horse riding, bike hire and a Sunday market in Ondres, and tennis courts in St-Martin. Lessons in "pelote basque" are possible. The summer offers many fêtes with various regional spectacles and concerts. There are many golf tournaments nearby throughout the year.

Exterior

Set in 16 hectares of grounds comprising woods and fields, the property enjoys panoramic views of the Rhune mountains and the countryside towards the Pyrénées. There is an enclosed garden and meals can be enjoyed at a large covered terrace just outside the kitchen. The pool house encloses a shower, a wc and a bar area with sink and refrigerator.

The swimming pool is heated to 24°C free of charge, weather permitting.

Interior

The bright and spacious interior has been completely renovated and is very tastefully decorated. On the ground floor of the Main House are a large living room with a billiard table at one end, a study with a single sofabed, a dining room and a large kitchen with a table. There is also a separate wc on this floor.

On the first floor are a sitting room with a double sofabed, two twin bedrooms (which can be made up as doubles), a  double bedroom, a bathroom, a bathroom with a separate shower unit and two separate wcs. On the second floor are a twin bedroom, a double bedroom, a bedroom with 3 single beds, a bathroom,  and a separate wc.

The Annexe, the original barn, consists of a kitchen with a sitting and dining area, a bedroom with two sets of bunk beds curtained off from a small room which leads to a double bedroom, and a bathroom with a separate shower and a wc.
