This well-preserved 17th century Manoir is located 1km from the small village of Coulounieix-Chamiers which can be reached by foot via a country lane; it has a bakery, a small café and a Sunday morning farmers' market. Fresh produce can be purchased from a nearby farm 300m away. Périgueux, the capital of the Périgord, with its stunning cathedral of St-Front, a daily market and many restaurants and museums is only 7km away. There are festivals in Périgueux throughout the summer. The beautiful town of Brantôme, the Venice of the Périgord, with boat rides on the Dronne River and the beautiful château at Bourdeilles are both located 30km to the north. The closest famous landmarks of the Dordogne, the châteaux and prehistoric sites, are 40km away. Sarlat is 72km to the southeast and Bergerac 46km to the south.
There are watersports on the River Isle (canoeing and fishing - 5km) and on the River Dordogne (canoeing, boating, swimming - 50km), a leisure lake for swimming and fishing at St-Armand-de-Vergt (27km). Horse riding is possible at Campcevinel (11km) and bike hire in Périgueux.
The Manoir was originally constructed in the late 16th century as a family home for a local family. It was later owned by a noble family as a 'gentilhommière'. The original round towers and enclosed interior courtyard have been well preserved. The extensive grounds contain a park with centenary trees and peaceful prairies.
The pool is heated to 27°C free of charge, weather permitting. If you require it to be heated at a higher temperature a charge of between 60 and 150 Euros per week depending on the season; this is payable locally.
The interior is spacious and is attractively decorated with a mixture of modern and antique furniture. At ground level are a living room, a dining room, a kitchen with a dining table, a double bedroom (off the living room, with doors to the courtyard) with an en suite shower room and a wc located in the tower of the building, and a further double bedroom with an adjacent shower room with a wc. On the first floor are three bedrooms: a twin, a single, and a large double with an en suite bathroom with a separate shower unit and a wc.
The annexe is located on the other side of the courtyard and consists of a living/games area with a double sofabed, a double bedroom and a bathroom with a separate shower unit and a wc. This is ideal for young people.
