Dominique says...

If any of our properties has undergone an assiduous restoration it must be this one. Literally no stone has been left unturned. The interior has been impeccably decorated and furnished and the setting by the river is idyllic. It really is a triumph.

Location

Originally one of the farmhouses of the Château de Montplaisir, this charming and stylish 18th century stone house has been renovated to a high standard with much attention to detail. It is located in a quiet hamlet along the River Côle. The "Venice of the Périgord", Brantôme, is only 5km away and offers all shops, a supermarket, a Friday market, good restaurants, cafés, as well as historical sites: an ancient abbey, an 11th century bell tower, cave dwellings and attractive town houses.

There are also canoeing, bike hire, horse riding and a tennis court at Brantôme. It is well worth visiting the beautiful château at Bourdeilles (16km). There is an 18 hole golf course at Périgueux (33km). The closest TGV station is at Angoulême (63km).

Exterior

The property overlooks 1500sqm of private garden with unprotected river frontage to one side and a small secluded field to another. The swimming pool is built in the style of a Roman bath and can be lit at night; it is set in an attractive walled garden off the living room and the kitchen. One can swim and fish (permit required) from the grassy banks of the river from which there are lovely views towards a picturesque stone bridge. The setting offers the privacy you need to relax and savour the special ambience of the Dordogne.

There is a charge of between 30 €  and 100 €  per week (varies according to season) for the pool to be heated. This is payable locally.

Interior

The interior has retained its original features and rustic charm - there are exposed stone walls and traditional tiled floors. Each room has been individually decorated by a Parisian interior designer who has created a harmonious and warm atmosphere. The large light living room opens onto a large covered terrace, ideal for outdoor dining and with views of the sunset, as well as onto the pool area to one side and the garden to another. The spacious kitchen boasts a magnificent stone fireplace and has a large dining table. Also on the ground floor is a utility room and a separate wc.

All the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the first floor. There are three suites: The Saffron Suite with a double bedroom, a single bedroom and a bathroom with a separate shower unit and a wc; the Pearl Grey Suite with a double bedroom and an adjacent bathroom with a wc; the Lavender Suite (ideal for children) consisting of a large bedroom with two double beds and a shower room with a wc located on a mezzanine.
