Location

The extraordinary location of this Renaissance style château makes it quite unique - it is a famous landmark along the Dordogne River in the Périgord Noir and offers genuinely privileged accommodation. All the facilities of the picturesque riverside village of La Roque-Gageac (small shops, restaurants, tennis court, horse riding, river swimming, canoeing, fishing) are within walking distance. More shops and supermarkets and bike hire are 3km away at Cénac. The lively medieval town of Sarlat is just 9km away. The many sites along the river - châteaux, prehistoric caves, medieval villages - are close at hand. There are a 9 hole golf couse at Vitrac (7.5km) and an 18 hole course at Siorac-en-Périgord (20km).

Exterior

The setting of the property is superb, on the edge of a rocky hill with wonderful views up and down river. A private drive running parallel to and above the main village road leads up to the impressive façade of the château. To one side of the château is the swimming pool area overlooking the river, and there are two hectares of grounds including woods, a park and gardens of 1000sqm. There is pool house with a kitchen and dining area, and a shower and a wc. The caretakers occupy a part of the château.

Interior

The interior has recently been restored in harmony with the impressive exterior. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. On the ground floor are a living room and a sitting room which open onto a large terrace, a dining room and a newly-installed and well-equipped kitchen, and a separate wc.

On the first floor are a large double bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a separate shower and a wc, two bedrooms each with one double bed and one single bed, one with an en suite bathroom (half bath) and a wc, the other with an en suite bathroom, a separate wc, a bedroom with two sets of bunk beds with an en suite bathroom and a wc, and a twin bedroom with an en suite bathroom and a wc and an adjacent single bedroom for a child (only access via twin bedroom).

On the second floor are a double bedroom with an en suite shower room and a wc, a separate wc, a single bedroom (lit bateau) with a washbasin and a twin bedroom with an en suite shower room with a wc.

Occupancy is limited to 12 persons. However, 2 additional persons can be accommodated (supplement applies).
