Location

Located in a charming part of the Charentes, this typically Charentaise mid-19th century 'Maison de Maître' enjoys a lovely setting. The lively medieval town of Pons is just 1km away - it offers a good selection of shops and services, a twice-weekly market (Monday and Wednesday), supermarkets, cafés and four good restaurants, four tennis courts, and pedaloes, canoeing and fishing along the River Seugne 500m from the house. Pons is a 'Ville Fleurie' with an attractive old quarter, a Donjon, a Pilgrim Hospice and two churches. There is an 18 hole golf course 31km away near Cognac.

There are many attractive towns close by: Jonzac (18km) with its spas and medieval Château, and don't miss the Hennessey tour at Cognac (26km) and the Roman amphitheatre at Saintes (20km). Close by are the 15th century Château d'Usson, the 13th century Hospice des Pèlerins, and many other interesting sites to discover. There are beautiful sandy beaches all along the Atlantic coast with the closest at St-Georges-de-Didonne (37km) and Royan (42km).

Exterior

Gates open into attractive grounds of 1 hectare which contain many mature trees, an extensive lawned area and an enclosed garden at the front of the house. The enclosed swimming pool is set to the side of an open barn which provides shade. There is a very pleasant terrace shaded by an awning off the kitchen, ideal for outdoor meals. The pool is heated to 26°C free of charge, weather permitting. If you require it to be heated at a higher temperature a charge of £75 per week will apply; this is payable in advance. It has a 1.06m deep ledge all around and roman steps set to one side.

Interior

The interior is very spacious, bright and inviting. The front hallway opens to the right into the living room with a fireplace, and a games room with an American pool table, and to the left to another room with table tennis, and a large kitchen with a dining area opening onto the terrace. There is a small games room off the kitchen with table football. On this floor there are also a twin bedroom with an en suite shower room and a separate wc.

On the first floor are a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a wc, a double bedroom sharing a shower room with a twin bedroom and a small single bedroom, a bedroom with a double bed and a single bed sharing a shower room with a twin bedroom, and two separate wcs. All the bedrooms have large windows overlooking the grounds.

Occupancy is limited to 12 persons and 2 infants.
