Location

Dating back to the late 18^th century this handsome property is conveniently located 6km from the attractive and lively small town of Surgères which offers a good selection of restaurants, all shops and services, supermarkets, and a market three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays). There is a bakery 3km away at St-Saturnin-du-Bois, as well as tennis courts. Horse riding is possible at St-Georges-du-Bois (10km) and bike hire at Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis (21km). La Rochelle with its charming port and old town is 40km away.

The closest sandy beaches are at Aytré (36km), Châtelaillon-Plage (37km) and Angoulins (38km). The lovely island of Ile de Ré is just beyond La Rochelle (St-Martin-de-Ré 64km) and well worth a visit. River boating is possible in La Sèvre Niortaise (35km) and there is an 18 hole golf course at Niort (33km). There are many different places to visit nearby: the historic theme park of Puy du Fou (155km), the futuristic theme park of Futuroscope (116km), the forest of Chizé (30km), the Roman vestiges of Saintes (59km), Romanesque Niort (33km) at the door of the beautiful waterways of the Marais-Poitevin, and the historic town of Rochefort (36km).

Exterior

The property is set in enclosed grounds of 9000sqm. Entrance to the property is via automatic gates into a spacious courtyard. To the other side of the house is a very large expanse of lawn in a walled and completely enclosed garden. The property is located on a road on the edge of the village of Chabosse (no shops). The swimming pool is located in a walled alcove to the side of the house which opens out into the back garden. Children can easily be supervised from the terrace outside the kitchen as the entire large garden is visible from here.

The pool is heated up to 26°C free of charge,weather permitting.

Interior

The interior is a delight and extremely welcoming, with interesting antiques and lovely artwork. A very warm atmosphere prevails throughout the house reflecting the care and love the owners have put into its restoration. An attractive entrance hall opens into a comfortable living room and a small study which leads into a huge country-style kitchen with a dining area at its centre; off the kitchen is a laundry room which leads to a fitness room and a shower room with a wc – from this area you can access the garden. A second staircase leads directly into the kitchen.
