John Walsh and family: We had a wonderful stay, with everything as near perfect as we could wish and so well managed. The house itself is fabulous, light-filled, spacious and stylish. All the bedrooms a good size, the beds so comfy – and the four poster.! Everyone enjoyed the huge terrace and the views to the vineyards and fields of sunflowers starching into the distance is magnificent. My personal favourite is the courtyard with its chapel and ornamental trees and shrubs. So calm, so peaceful... All our friends who came to visit were so envious that we were staying for three whole weeks. We all enjoyed every minute and fully intend to return.
Manny and Jane Amadi: Our family (Manny, Jane and our four boys aged between nine and two) visited Ch. de Campanes in August 2005. We had a wonderful and very memorable stay! From a hectic life in London, and following a lovely drive from Toulouse airport through the French countryside, we arrived to discover an oasis of calm, peace and tranquillity.
The house is set in acres of landscaped and open grounds, surrounded by beautiful trees and the most stunning views of the French countryside. Even before walking through the doors, the house 'speaks' of character and history; we had a feeling we were arriving at a discrete and very characterful country mansion retreat. Walking through the doors, we were immediately struck by a sense of space, as well as the comforting combination of relaxed elegance and a feeling of homeliness. Whilst every room had been beautifully designed and decorated, the comfortable style and easy elegance of the house made it so comfortable to live in. Elegance and lovely taste, yes; but we felt no need to 'tip toe' around the place.
We were warmly welcomed by Rose the housekeeper who showed us around the house and as we looked through each window, we were struck by the stunning views available from every bedroom and room in the house: '360 degree' perfection!
We arrived on a hot day in the middle of the summer and were pleased to find that although the temperature was in the 30's outside, the thick stone walls, high vaulted ceilings and large rooms meant the house was wonderfully cool throughout the day. We were blessed with lovely weather during our stay and didn't once feel the need for a fan or air-conditioner whilst in the house - a tribute to the wisdom of centuries old design.
So, the interior explored, we ventured to the back of the house, onto the great terrace from which the fantastic and stunning vista of the countryside was most fully revealed! We spent many relaxed, lazy evenings, having barbecues, playing family games and watching the sunset from the terrace.
One of the other highlights of Chateau de Campanes is the beautiful private pool where we spent much of our time. Mum and Dad relaxing by the poolside whilst the children had a wonderful time swimming and playing water games. This was often followed by a family 'explore' of the lovely grounds.
We had a thoroughly fantastic time at Chateau de Campanes and would happily recommend it to anyone seeking the beauty and calm of the French countryside. A perfect place!
