Small independent Dominique's was started in 1986 by half-French Dominique Wells, who hand-picks all the properties. Portfolio: It has 130 upmarket châteaux, old farmhouses and modern villas, well described and illustrated in the brochure, with extra photos and some floor plans on the website. Strongest area: Provence, especially around pretty Vaison-la-Romaine and on or near the Côte d'Azur, and south-west France, especially the Dordogne and less visited Lot-et-Garonne. Typical property: A gorgeous 19th Century house, with vineyards and woods and a swimming pool, just outside Vaison-la-Romaine.
