A new public-private initiative to build an east-west route across the Vaucluse, costing 7,500 Euros, has been approved by the French department of transport. This should help to end the frustration of many local motorists, presently compelled to drive as far south as Orange to connect with motorway links towards Spain and Italy.
From the summer of 2008, Courtine, in the south of the Luberon, will have a direct motorway to Rognonas, including a new crossing of the river Durance. The most difficult section, probably the last to be completed, will be west of Rognonas, which requires a new road bridge across the Rhône.
