In southwest France the annual fair of 'bio' (organic) products has been poached after 25 years by the town of Gaillac from neighbouring Rabestens, amidst harsh recriminations in the Midi-Pyrénées. Accusations of skullduggery that would not have seemed out of place in that famous French satirical film, Jean de Florette, have failed to prevent the festival switching to Gaillac’s Parc de Foucaud. The dirty deed, if dirty it was, is blamed on the assistant to the local mayor, who negotiated behind the scenes with the organisers, Nature et Progrès. This year’s 'Biocybèle' event, held over the Whitsun weekend of June 4- 5, offers a kilometer of stands and as the central theme, the production of bread, the bio way.
