Luc Besson Yann Arthus-Bertrand
Production has begun in Brazil of Luc Besson’s new film about the environment, “Boomerang”, scheduled for release on June 5 next year, World Environment Day. Inspired by the images shot by French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand for his book, “The Earth from the Air”, “Boomerang” will show more than fifty countries exclusively from the sky.
The theme of the movie concerns major social and environmental issues and how, given an optimistic attitude, solutions are still possible. The film is sponsored by PPR, a French retailer with a multi-billion turnover well known for its support of eco-friendly projects.
In an unusual move, the film will be available for distribution without charge, once PPR has recovered its initial investment. Profits from the movie will go to GoodPlanet, a foundation set up by Arthus-Betrand to help people understand the significance of environmental issues.
This is the third environmental film likely to make an impact, following Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, which won an Oscar, and “The Eleventh Hour” narrated by Leonardo di Caprio.
