We've had this property for many years. The owners are particularly charming but do not live on site! The grounds are beautiful and the house is formal and sophisticated but full of warmth and character.

Location

This beautiful "empire" style château was built as a hunting lodge in 1812, and has remained in one family since then. It is located 3km from the small town of Pontvallain (basic shops) and 12km from the pleasant Loir town of Le Lude, with its Renaissance château. La Flèche, 29km to the west, is a market town for the regional produce of the Maine, and the Loire Valley with its panorama of fabulous châteaux is only a half-hour's drive away. Horse riding is available at Mansigné (7km), as well as a leisure lake. There are tennis courts at Mayet (9.5km), and an 18 hole golf course at Mulsanne (24km). In the summer there are many music and theatre festivals, and visits to local vineyards can be arranged.

Exterior

The château is set in 30 acres of beautiful private grounds, including a wonderful assortment of magnificent mature trees planted at the end of the 19th century. A long private drive leads up through the expansive front garden to the main entrance. The woodlands and rolling fields are a peaceful and interesting setting for walks and exploration. The swimming pool is set to one side of the château. There is a spacious terrace with children's play area.

Interior

The château is comfortably furnished with period furniture. There are a living room, a library, a spacious dining room and a well-equipped kitchen. There are five double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, three bathrooms each with a wc and one shower room on the first floor. The second floor, a spacious converted attic space, consists of three twin bedrooms, one single bedroom and two bathrooms each with a wc.

Occupancy is limited to 10 plus two children under five.

A supplement applies to weeks booked during the "24 heures du Mans" in June.
